Personal Quote: It was not me. Not sure who it was but I'm fairly sure it wasn't me.
I'm sitting down to write this after midnight on a night when I should probably be in bed. I've literally just finished up one of the lectures that I have to catch up on and my eyes are burning a bit, but I feel like if I don't do this now, I probably won't. It's been a few years, and for some reason I've decided to get back into old hobbies. I suspect it's to stave off the boredom and annoyance I am dealing with to a greater or lesser degree lately. In regard to that, let's recount a few things, shall we?

The journal entry before this one alluded to something big happening in the near future. It also said a few other things - about my unemployment and stuff like that. I won't go into too much detail about that - I've got other places I can dump that sort of thing - but I will say here that the big happening involved university. At that point in time, I wasn't sure whether or not I was going to get into a Masters program, but I did end up managing it and am now in my final term of an Advanced Masters of Information Technology, majoring in Library and Information services. I decided to chase the dream of doing something with my life that I wanted to do, and being a librarian seemed a pretty great job, as well as being involved with books, which I seem to be having a lifelong love affair with. I am still jobless for the time being, but I'm busier now than I ever have been. I don't mind it, but sometimes it does get on top of me.

I could go on and on about my life changes that I've undergone since last I wrote, but in all honesty not much has changed significantly. One thing that is interesting is that in returning to this site, I've undergone something of an evolution in my artistic life. I'm still really interested in photography, but things have changed. I used to use a Fujifilm Finepix and have a total disdain for post production, beyond adding frames and titles to my work. I'd also resize photos to fit onto the screen here, but it seems in the intervening years since I last posted (I think it was around 2007 that I last actually put work up), that isn't needed any more. Semantic technology is alive and well on deviantArt, and I'm happy for that. I'm also using my trusty iPhone as my principle artistic tool now, and I've augmented it with an olloclip and a few apps to help me out in post production. I have to admit, it was mildly galling to make the leap to relying on more post production technique, but for the time being, this is how I'm going to roll. I'd love to have the budget to get a better DSLR rig, or even a film camera, but it just isn't possible - free apps and a bit of tweaking here and there are the flavor of the month here. It almost feels a bit silly, using a camera phone that both costs more and produces technically higher quality results than my old dedicated camera. Having said that, I have recently resurrected the old Fuji from the box I hid it in all those years ago - I still enjoy getting behind it. Feels more 'artful', if that makes any sense. I'm sure I'll come back to this dichotomy in later journals.

Anyway, for the time being, I'm back to stay and ready to see how I go with new tech, a new site, and fresh eyes.
